1 comments about English Origins of American Colonists: From the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record.
- One of the main objectives in American genealogy is to identify an immigrant's place of origin and parentage. This pursuit has been so important that thousands of pages of abstracts and transcriptions have been published in American periodicals and learned journals over the years. Among the most important of these periodicals is The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, which, between the years 1903 and 1916, published four lengthy series of abstracted English probate records and depositions, now collected in this work.
These abstracts constitute some of the most valuable articles on the English origins of American colonists ever published. In order of appearance here, they are: (1) "Clues from English Archives Contributory to American Genealogy," by J. Henry Lea and J. R. Hutchinson; (2) "New York Gleanings in England," by Lothrop Withington; (3) "Genealogical Notes from the High Court of Admiralty Examinations," by J. R. Hutchinson; and (4) "A Digest of Essex Wills with Particular Reference to Names of Importance in the American Colonies," by William Gilbert. For the researcher's convenience, all four articles appear here in their entirety with an index of nearly 10,000 names.

4 comments about The History of Stilton Cheese (The Best of British in Old Photographs).
- I never thought I could learn soooo much about stilton in such a small amount of time. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me pee my pants. If you ever wanted to know about stilton this book is for you.
- This is far and away the best book every written on the topic. A must for lovers of fine cheeses.
- I've developed a Stilton habit as a consequence of this book. Very enjoyable indeed.
- This book is a must read! The rollercoaster ride of suspense begins with the opening page, and does not end until you have reached the back cover. Be captivated by the photos of the Stilton process, including the cheese "rubbing up" shots. Swoon at the photos of the workers as they go through the cheese making process. I guarantee with each turn of the page comes adventure!
I have read this book many times over, and give it two thumbs up. William Shakespeare, eat your heart out!

1 comments about Worcester County's Polish Community (MA) (Images of America).
- I have a bunch of these books. Some are towns I have lived in, some are geogaphical areas I have enjoyed growing up. I love knowing the history of a place and why things are the way they are. There is not alot of text but these are packed with facts and photo documentation. Always well worth the price and a great "unusual" gift.
